2019 is fast approaching as I type this, so naturally thoughts turn towards the past year and the one to come.
In 2018 I resolved to spend less on the hobby (✓ - I spent maybe ~£50-70 total, excluding birthday and Christmas money/gifts), spend more time on the hobby (✓ - for the majority of the year I spent at least 30 minutes every night either painting, building or gaming ) and to play more games ( this one I didn't achieve - after a strong start games trickled off, to the extent that it's now been over 6 months since I've played a game)
Going into next year my aims are pretty similar:
- Continue to not spend on models- I will allow myself to buy paint etc and the occasional flutter on Warhammer Conquest when it's a particularly good deal on something I would have paid full price for, but I will aim to resist buying any models out with that (as always birthday and Christmas presents don't count, though they are both a long way away!) I do reserve the right to buy more in the incredibly unlikely situation that I somehow run out of grey plastic! I'll be happy if I can keep model expenditure under £50
- Finish 2 FULL armies. In 2018 I can pretend I finished 3 armies, but only one of them was actually large enough to stand and fight on it's own- I built 2000 points of Nids along with 900 points of Blood Angels and 700 of Grey Knights. In 2019 I aim to finish at least two full armies- namely my 1500 points of Deathwatch and my 2000 points of Death Guard.
- PLAY GAMES! I love to actually play games with the models I've built, it just doesn't happen all that often. I have limited free time, and even when I'm not herding two small humans I tend to be fairly house bound, as they tend to be asleep upstairs at that point! That said I hope that this year I can play at least 12 games of 40k... Does Necromunda and Blackstone count? What about solo runs of Blackstone?
- Continue to indoctrinate...I mean introduce, my eldest to the hobby. She painted one Primaris in 2018 along with slapping some random colours on a few old Genestealer models, this year I'd like to try and get her to paint some more- maybe even try some simple games with them...
I think that's it, totally achievable, right?

Good luck mate :-) I have had "play more games" on my To-Do list for years, but I just can't find the time. Kill Team has saved my gaming, I think!
ReplyDeleteYeah finding time is hard! Who knows, if my girls decide they like the game I might have regular weekly games! Of course that's at least 3 years away if I'm being realistic!
DeleteHappy Hogmanay :)
Necromunda definitely counts in my book.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck with your goals....I won't even make a resolution after failing spectacularly the last year ;-)
Haha yeah I don't often succeed with them- last year went well though so who knows!
